Giclee/Inkjet Prints
Giclee (meaning to squirt in French) has become a term used to denote a high end inkjet print onto archival paper using pigmented archival inks. We have done a lot of research into papers for giclee printing and have profiles for a whole range, particularly of the Hahnemuhle range.

Pre-Press Proofs
It is always a good policy to provide your client or printing house with a proof alongside your digital files in order to help maintain colour accuracy. When working with an image we are using an RGB colour space (a monitors colour space). In terms of printers though, only Digital C-Type (Lightjet) printers, print using RGB (lasers).

All printers for publications such as magazines, books and billboards use CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black). With CMYK there are different industry standards depending on a number of factors: country, paper stock (coated or uncoated) and particular printer used. Each different CMYK space has a different colour gamut (range of reproducible colours) which means that in order to know whether your RGB file is reproducible in the magazine/book it is intended for, you must have a CMYK conversion done. This will reveal whether any of the colours in your RGB file are outside of the particular CMYK gamut. It is also a way of controlling black levels, necessary for CMYK output. In order to show the print-house exactly what colour you seek to achieve it is then advisable to have a proof made from this conversion.
